Avin means Love / Avin znaczy miłość

This work was triggered by the news of the death of a Kurdish woman from Iraq who was hiding from border guards on the Polish-Belarusian border. Her name was Avin Ifran Zahir. As reported by the Grupa Granica [Border Group], as a result of so-called push-backs, the pregnant Kurdish woman spent three days in the forest on the Belarusian side and four on the Polish side. On the Polish side, her condition worsened. She moaned with pain and vomited in front of her children and husband. Unconscious, with hypothermia and feverish delirium, she was found by volunteers from the Border Group. She died in a hospital in Hajnówka.

“As of August 2021 on the Polish-Belarusian border there has been an ongoing migration and humanitarian crisis. The Border Guard detain and send back to Belarus foreigners who attempt to cross the Polish border illegally. No procedures are instituted in respect of these foreigners, they are simply turned back and left on their own in the forest in the border area. In some cases it has been documented that foreigners were sent back even though in the presence of Polish immigration officers they declared they would like to apply for international protection in Poland.”

Impulsem do realizacji tej pracy była wiadomość o śmierci – ukrywającej się przed strażą graniczną na granicy polsko-białoruskiej – pochodzącej z Iraku, Kurdyjki Avin Ifran Zahir. Jak raportowała Grupa Granca w wyniku tzw. push-backów Kurdyjka będąca w ciąży spędzila w lesie trzy dni po stronie białoruskiej i cztery po polskiej. Po polskiej stronie jej stan się pogorszył. Jęczała z bólu i wymiotowała przy swoich dzieciach i mężu. Nieprzytomną, w hipotermii i w malignie odnaleźli wolontariusze z Grupy Granica. Zmarła w szpitalu w Hajnówce.

„Od sierpnia 2021 r. na granicy polsko-białoruskiej trwa kryzys migracyjny oraz humanitarny. Straż Graniczna zatrzymuje i odsyła do Białorusi cudzoziemców przekraczających granicę Polski w sposób niezgodny z przepisami. Wobec cudzoziemców tych nie są wszczynane żadne procedury, a odsyłanie odbywa się poprzez pozostawianie cudzoziemców w lesie w strefie przygranicznej. W części tych przypadków udokumentowano, że cudzoziemcy byli odsyłani w sytuacji, gdy zadeklarowali chęć ubiegania się w Polsce o ochronę międzynarodową w obecności funkcjonariuszy polskiej Służby Granicznej”.
