”Rooms (not)present 2”
exhibition ”Artfront/Waterfront ” Newhouse Gallery, New York,USA, 2002
My work presented there was inspired, at the request of the organizers, by Staten Island itself. Driving a bicycle around, I documented places on the Island which drew my attention. Most of these places have been abandoned as a result of changing economic conditions. They were run down or forgotten; ignored by passers by. As a result of digital processing, nine of those places have been recalled by me from the obscurity and brought back virtually to life in a video projection. Projection of this work illuminated sterile white exhibition space radically transforming the context of this place in the process. It was not my intention to revive / recall those places. They became a pretext to present the ephemerality and transitory nature of human activity.
