Macchina Gallery, Santiago, Chile in the frame of project ”Mandala of the Invader” (see link: https://mariusz-soltysik.com/projects/mandala-of-the-invader-subtitile-beyond-the-orbit-of-change/
The work is from 2023, but has been modified in Macchina.
The idea of the work comes from the phenomenon of “SPAM” in the context of the etymology of the word “SPAM” and its contemporary references. It refers to the virtual reality that penetrates the material, physical one. The name ”SPAM” comes from canned pork luncheon meat produced since the 1930s by the American company Hormel Foods. A Monty Python skit in which a group of Vikings interrupted a conversation by singing “SPAM, SPAM, lovely SPAM, wonderful SPAM” contributed to the popularity of the name. As a phenomenon, SPAM appeared on the Internet as an unwanted message in the amount of 1,000 messages by Einar Stefferud on May 1, 1978. Then there were the gigantic scandals of sending commercial spam by the law firm of Laurence Canter and Martha Sigel, and of sending spam by a mentally ill student from Ohio who blocked Usenet servers in 1994 with the message: “Global Alert for All: Jesus is Coming Soon.” My work refers to the transfer of the SPAM phenomenon from virtual reality to physical, material reality. So we are dealing with an unwanted, forced phenomenon or thing. My work involves using an imitation of a living, plant form through a plastic counterpart. It is a currently common substitute that imitates living and dead forms. The problem in this case is the use of a material that today constitutes a huge problem for nature, coming from non-renewable energy sources, i.e. crude oil. The work is accompanied by a text written in the form of concrete poetry.
