”What are You willing to sacrifice?”

It was ephemeral action with wafer biscuit (with a chocolate filling) in form of letters* (handmade) in the ”Opcja” Gallery, Kraków, Poland, 2022

Is there anything else that a short note on your hand can remind you of that you can sacrifice in your life? Let’s assume that you are doing great, you are happy and healthy, you have friends, loved ones. And only “small” details disturb this picture:
– war abroad (Ukraine);
– a climate catastrophe resulting from pollution, causing an increase in greenhouse gases. In 7 years, at the pace of these changes, the climate temperature will reach an irreversible level in the form of warming. Only 1.5 degrees warmer will cause irreversible changes on the entire planet, which will also affect us/ you … Another clock counting down this time has been installed in Prague;
– dwindling natural resources of the planet, which does not renew itself as it did 20–30 years ago. As a result of wasteful economy, such as deforestation, animal and plant species that determine a balanced ecosystem are dying;
– water shortages: there are already places without drinking water, and drought is also becoming a reality in our hitherto green country;
– populism and the attractiveness of fascism as a form of negation of real social needs based on the natural ecosystem.

What the viewers had to do to eat the wafer buscuit:
It’s like the famous saying “eat your cake and have it too”.
Is there anything you could sacrifice to change this image? If there is something you are thinking about or are already doing – please write it what it is/or could be (anonymously). Then take a sweet letter from the cookie that is part of the inscription – a reminder to remember the taste / state when, you still could have sacrificed something (even theoretically) to continue to enjoy the sweet taste of chocolate made from cocoa fruits… eat a cookie to have it?

technique: wafer biscuit (with a chocolate filling), photography, paper
* the shape of the letters was taken from the design of the Polish avant-garde artist Mieczysław Szczuka 1898–1927

// Thanks to Estera Gałuszka for her support and help in preparing sweet chocolate masses…
